There are several types of incontinence that men may experience.
- Stress incontinence: Occurs when activities such as bending, lifting, or coughing put pressure on the bladder and cause leaks.
- Urge incontinence: Caused by the bladder contracting when it shouldn’t, leading to a sudden and intense urge to urinate.
- Mixed incontinence: Is a combination of both stress and urge incontinence.
- Overflow incontinence: Occurs when the bladder is unable to completely empty, leading to unexpected leaks.
While some may be candidates for surgery and medications, for a natural and non-invasive approach, Kegel exercises can be beneficial in strengthening the pelvic muscles that help control the bladder. Start by identifying the right muscles, which are the ones used to stop the passage of gas. Then, tense, hold, and release these muscles, increasing duration and frequency over time.
